Role of GP - Doctors are available to consult on all health related issues. Advice is given

on likely causes of ill health, their investigation, management and treatment. Health

promotion advice is given to reduce the likelihood of ill health in the future. Patients are

encouraged to be involved in the decision making process regarding their health. Referral

for specialist care in the hospital or community is also discussed.

 

Role of Practice Nurse - Ruth Millican and Sue Wright perform regular disease management

clinics, give health promotion advice including vaccinations/immunisations and smoking

cessation. Other areas of expertise include minor injuries, wound management, ear syringing,

cryotherapy, phlebotomy and performing tests such as ECG's and spirometry.They liaise with

the doctors and community staff with regards to patients' health needs.

 

Role of MacMillan Nurse - As part of the Specialist Palliative Care Team, Macmillan Nurses

work in the Community alongside the Primary Health Care Team and are available to offer

advice regarding symptom control/practical issues/financial matters and also they provide

emotional support to cancer patients and their families/carers.

They can also be involved with patients who suffer from other life-limiting diseases.

 

Role of Midwife - The Midwife has a role in preconception, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. she visits, as needed, for the first 10 days postnatally. She covers all
areas of health promotion for the mother and child up to 4 weeks old.

 

Role of Health Visitor - Elaine Smith is available 12 hrs/wk, usually Mondays and Wednesdays.

Tel No 01768362378. She is here to support and advise on the maintenance of good health

for all the family. She sees the newborn child from the 11th day after delivery performing

regular developmental checks and giving advice on many health related issues including

immunisation advice.

 

Role of Reception - all reception staff are here to receive patients either at the surgery reception desk or via the telephone. They are here to help you, make appointments, deal

with enquiries and take repeat prescription requests. Their job is very demanding so please

be patient.

 

We aim to treat our patients courteously at all times and expect our patients to treat our

staff in a similarly respectful way. We take seriously any threatening, abusive or violent

behaviour against any of our staff or patients. If a patient is violent or abusive, they will

be warned to stop their behaviour. If they persist, we may exercise our right to take action

to have them removed, immediately if necessary, from our list of patients.
