If you are thinking of planning a family, we would advise a consultation with a doctor, nurse or midwife for a health check up and advice.

ANTENATAL CLINIC

Run by Midwife.  9.30am - 12noon (Every other Thursday) The doctor or midwife will advise you how often you need to attend, depending on the stage in your pregnancy.

BABY CLINIC

Run by the Health Visitor. 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month from 1.00pm - 3.00pm.

DIABETIC CLINIC

We run a joint clinic with the Practice Nurse, the Dietician and the Podiatrist. Ruth Millican, the practice diabetic nurse, will arrange your appointment for you.

CORONARY HEART DISEASE CLINIC

Run by the Practice Nurse, Sue Wright.  Sue will invite you, at least annually, for a check up.

COPD/ASTHMA CLINIC

Review appointments are available at your request. These two clinics are run by both Sue Wright. We would suggest an annual review.

vaccinationIMMUNISATION

Children - your Health Visitor will discuss your child's immunisation schedule with you. The practice nurse gives the immunisations at Shap Surgery.

Adults - Tetanus and Polio boosters are advisable every 10 years, up to a maximum of 5 doses. If you are not sure of your current status please ring the surgery.

Flu immunisations are offered to everyone over 65 years + those with asthma / diabetes / heart disease or other chronic illness.

Travel vaccinations please collect a travel form from reception well before the date of intended travel, at least 2 months before if possible or complete the online form. Once completed return it to the Surgery and book an appointment with the nurse. There is a charge for some of the vaccines which is payable in advance before the first vaccination. Please ask at reception for current rates.

The Practice Nurse does these by appointment. Women between 25-65 are advised to have a smear every 3-5 years. You will usually receive a reminder from the Health Authority. If you think you have missed out, please contact the surgery.

GENERAL HEALTH CHECKS

We like to meet all new patients for a general health check soon after registering with the practice, these are usually performed by the practice nurse. If you are on any repeat prescriptions, please also make an appointment with the Doctor before your medication runs out.
